Had my son and his family up from GA for a week and on their last full day here, July 18, we headed South to do a little fluking and sharking. We fluked the ICW along BH and Holgate late morning and early afternoon with bucktails and 4″ Gulp. We caught 4 shorts, 1-18″ keeper and a small bluefish we later used sharking. As the afternoon wore on and we had about 3hrs left of the outgoing tide we anchored up south of LE Inlet, threw over the chum bag and bunker chunks. The action started right away with my son, both grandsons and myself boating sand tiger sharks in the 23 to 28lb range. They have very strong, long initial runs with additional shorter runs as they near the boat. Loads of fun! However, when you hook a ray it is another story…steady, slow, powerful run of a bulldozer with occasional dead stops. With the medium weight tackle we were fishing, the ray rules! After a 30+ minute tug of war we got her along side and released her. What a blast, great memories are made of this!
