We arrived in Bonita Springs on Tues, 2/17. Of course the wind was blowing gale force from Tues Through Friday and we picked the week that all 50 yr records were broken along the entire Gulf Coast, but it still beats what you all are suffereing through. Today we finally were able to get out on the boat to do some fishing.
We went out 3 miles to the May Reef, only to find the water temps at 55 degrees. Gave it a good try for an hour, but it was not to be. The Captain, my old boss, made the command decision to run back into the bay for some warmer water, only to find the bay at 55 degrees also. After a few fruitless drifts we anchored up just off the main channel in 10′ of water and began drifting hi-lo pompano rigs with 1/2 oz and drifted them though the channel and started hooking up with whiting, also called croakers down here. Up North they are what we call King Fish. We had a great day boating close to 50 fish, included some sivler trout. We kept 20 for dinner and enjoyed a terrific day on the water. Back out to the reef tomorrow. We’ll see what the fishing gods provide. Sorry, no pics, too busy fishing.
