I fished with 3 friends on a charter off Cape Cod on August 28th. We went 1 for 4, boating about a 70 lb. Bluefin Tuna. In spite of the “big ones getting away”, one after a 2 hour fight, we enjoyed the trip. We were tired and sore, but the thrill seeing these trophy size tuna near the boat made it worth the effort.
On August 30th, I went on Belmar’s Golden Eagle to the Hudson Canyon. It was a bit slow, but managed 3 Yellowfin Tuna and around a dozen Mahi. I was fortunate that we ran into the tuna busting on the surface just before heading home. I got a 60 pounder that was racing toward the boat on a popper. The tuna are out there and it seems like most are being taken on the troll. This being my 3rd trip locally this year, I’d say patience and perseverance will help.
