Caesar Pesarini and new member Alan Goracy joined me for a day of fishing for the fluke contest. We started out at the LE inlet and quickly had 3 fish in the box but none were likely contest winners. Despite the greenies, we continued to fish until Caesar and I hooked two rays almost at the same time. After losing both rigs, we decided to make the trip outside to the LE reef.
Radio chats with both Marty and Basil (on Bill Dabney’s boat) confirmed the inlet and ocean were not too bad. Once there, we joined a fleet of boats. However, with a slow drift, there wasn’t much action other than birds. I decided to reverse troll and move away from the fleet. Immediately we started getting a few shorts until Caesar got the two nice fish in the photo – one almost 4 and one almost 5 lbs. The hot bait was nuclear chicken gulp!
We left the reef at 1:00 and arrived at my dock in BHW by 2:00 to get ready for the BBQ. The bigger fish won first place in our contest but there should be a separate report on that event.
