The JCAA Fluke Tournament was held this past Saturday June 17. I fished with Phil Simon in his boat with VHFC member Dan Ludwig and his son Joe. Due to the strong winds, we opted to fish the bay and even that was no picnic! I used a 2 oz jig the entire day and still had plenty of line scope. We fished everywhere from the BI down Oyster Creek, Double Creek in many spots, High Bar down past the houses, the dike and the back water by the Viking Village. We left at 6:30 and returned at 3:00 and all we had to show for it were several shorts and one 19″ fluke that I caught. What a day!
John Barrett and crew went out to GSN and caught the beauty in the photo – 24 1/2″ and 4.93 lbs that took second place. Unfortunately, the tournament winner went 6.5 lbs and entered the Calcuttas. John caught his fish in 80 ft and his crew got a second fish at 3 1/2 lbs. Both fish were caught on large mullet. John went out BL but due to the winds, came in through LE. John said they got a little beat up but figured that’s where the bigger fluke would be.
Except for the wind, the tourney was a lot of fun!
