We left the dock at a small marina in Waretown at 6:15 AM on Charlie Kaul’s boat. The winds were light and tide was in the final hour of outgoing. We only motored for about a quarter mile and I was ready. I dropped my 1 ounce white spinner jig tipped with squid and frozen spearing and was hit immediately. The fish was hot and put up a great fight on my ultralight rod. It measured 23 inches. On the next drop, whamo another nice fish that was also hot. It measured 21 inches. It is nice to be 10 minutes into the trip and 2 in the box, the pressure is off. I guess the fish spooked because we only managed a short and a blue fish after that. We fished double creek after that with no luck and then headed out the inlet to drift the tires at 70 feet. I picked up a short but nothing else but sea robins. We then headed back to the fleet on the reef but the drift was too slow to produce. We fished several spots in the bay on the way back with no luck and ended up with the 2 fish caught in the first 10 minutes. Beautiful weather all day and surprisingly little traffic for a Saturday.
